Theodore Roosevelt is one of my favorite presidents. He is insightful and never spoke like a typical politician. Because of this, I decided that a simple design for his quote would hold the most meaning. The quote “Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground” can be applied to government or everyday life. Roosevelt was one of few presidents that really cared about the people. By working with Illustrator on this project, I was able to explore with layers, shape and transformation tools to create a design surrounding the quote. There are also many options for type that helped me create a feeling of motion with the type and varying sizes of the shapes in the design.
My color scheme involved the use of complimentary colors, blue and yellow, with a dark background to make the colors stand out the way that I wanted. This is a color scheme that I have seen in many designs including the logo from a school that I went to when I was younger, which is where I got the idea for this color design. I chose to use Noteworthy typeface that creates a whimsical style of font while appearing as a simple, older style that might have still been used in the early 1900s.
It takes a while to realize that a good design does not have to be complex or overly detailed, it just has to present an idea and a feeling incorporated with the overall subject of the project.
